It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
