Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former coach Cervara.
Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
This represents his maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.
Success also indicates he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one various events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.
The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.
The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to push for a final set.
The opponent defended four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
