Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
